Thank you for taking the time to visit our website. It is a privilege and an honour to lead the Upwey South Primary School community. My personal goal is for each and every student at our school to be happy, engaged and successful in their learning. I want our students to love to come to school each day. The needs of our students are at the core of everything we do and I will continue to promote strong home-school partnerships and our sense of community.
We want our students to be well prepared for each stage of their learning and personal development. We work together as a harmonious, creative and informed learning community so that our students have the necessary literacy, numeracy, digital and personal skills to enable them to build their own unique future as Australian and global citizens. The sky is the limit for our students and we encourage creativity in all areas of our curriculum. Our school uses a holistic approach that begins during Pre-School to Foundation transition and continues throughout their learning journey towards a successful transition to secondary education. We believe that children learn only when they are engaged and when the learning is relevant. Progress must be monitored so that every student has the opportunity to reach their personal best. We accomplish this by providing abundant opportunities to develop our children’s talents and skills, while nurturing their natural curiosity and desire to explore. Upwey South has a strong focus on academic achievement. Our teaching teams collaborate and work hard to ensure that the individual needs of our students are addressed. Specialist programs in Visual Arts, Performing Arts/Music, Language (Japanese) and Physical Education enrich our school curriculum and our extra-curricular programs also provide extension and enrichment opportunities.
Every student is encouraged to be a ‘leader’ at Upwey South. We have a very enthusiastic Junior School Council who represent their peers at regular meetings. Our School Captains facilitate our weekly assembly and we encourage all of our students to develop their public speaking skills through a range of class, level and whole school events where the achievements of students are recognised and celebrated. Our whole school assembly promotes student leadership at all levels and we regularly restate our school values of Respect, Responsibility and Resilience.
I feel very fortunate to be part of such a wonderful learning community and 2017 will be another exciting year. As we move through the 2017 school year together as a united and supportive team – teachers, parents and students – we will be doing our utmost to ensure great learning and play environments and rich opportunities for each and every child from Foundation to Year 6.
