Student Wellbeing at all levels is a priority at Upwey South. If children are unhappy or worried about something they cannot learn effectively. We observe and listen to our students and we support them on a daily basis. We contact parents or guardian’s if we have any concerns for a student’s wellbeing. We encourage supportive friendships and we put the welfare and safety of our students before anything else.
This year we have been introduced to our new Kimochis. They help us all to learn more about our relationships with other people – children and adults. While we may have unique personalities, we all share the same feelings. We celebrate the differences between us and we try to accept and support each other. The Kimochis also help us to see things from the perspective of others. Even our senior students have enjoyed getting to know them.
At Upwey South we all agree that we will try to ‘live’ our school values every day. Our values are RESPECT, RESPONSIBILITY and RESILIENCE.
We agree that we don’t want any bullying behaviour at our school. Students are encouraged to report bullying behaviour to their class teacher or yard duty teacher straight away so that any issues can be followed up immediately.
We understand that not all students will be ‘friends’ but we encourage respectful relationships at all levels. We follow a restorative approach where we aim to turn negative relationships into accepting respectful ones. We also follow the ‘Play is the Way’ approach and engage our students in role modelling ativities to deepen their understanding of how we should interact with each other.
We also understand that all children will make mistakes. We believe that they should be supported through any difficult times and feel optimistic about the future. Every day is a new day at Upwey South!
