At Upwey South, we put the safety and welfare of our students before anything else.
We believe through living our values, building growth mindsets and professionally developing our staff we can build a safe and supportive learning environment.
We seek to instil our core values of Respect, Responsibility and Resilience in our daily tasks and interactions.
As a USPS Learner, I always value Respect:
- for oneself, the environment, and the rights of others.
As a USPS Learner, I always value Responsibility:
- to take action and do what is right, to be kind, and to be courageous.
As a USPS Learner, I always value Resilience:
- to approach learning challenges with insight and enthusiasm.
We acknowledge and celebrate our students’ efforts to enact our school values with awards presented at our weekly and end of term whole school assemblies. Students can also get ‘caught out’ in the play ground with our on-the-spot ‘Gotcha Awards’ for demonstrating values in action.
We are a ‘Growth Mindset’ School where we encourage students to take risks with their learning- to have a try with the confidence that it is okay to make mistakes. Learning and task mastery is a process – It’s not that we can’t do it…we just can’t do it yet!
Our learning environment is supported by visiting services, such as OnPsych, Speech Pathology and the School Nurse Program.
In 2019 we are also about to embark on the Berry Street Educational Model professional development program with a focus on positive education for academic and personal growth for all students.
We also have a number of school policies that focus upon Student and Community Welfare. You can review our policies in detail here.
