Parking and traffic management is a situation which is closely monitored by School Council, Yarra Ranges Council, and school leadership.
In conjunction with the Victorian School Building Authority (VSBA), our school works hard to manage and meet our obligations alongside the obligations of Yarra Ranges Council.
Under the VSBA Regulations, schools are not required (nor allocated) carparking spaces for the following:
- staff carparks (any staff parking is to be managed and funded at a local level by School Council)
- visitor/parent/carer carparks (any visitor parking is to be managed and funded at a local level by School Council)
Under the VSBA Regulations, schools are required to provide carparking spaces for the following:
- one (1) all-abilities access car-space per school site
As a School Council, we acknowledge that the provisions from the VSBA are insufficient to meet vehicle demand, and are not in adherence with community expectations. Therefore, we have undertaken the following actions:
- provided on-site parking for staff (limited capacity) to remove staff vehicles from surrounding neighbourhood streets
- provided on-site parking (limited capacity) for visitors/contractors (with access restrictions as detailed below)
- provided two (2) on-site all-abilities access car spaces
The following safety rules are currently in place:
- Morris Road Visitor Carpark
- Access to the Morris Road carpark is closed to all vehicles between 8:15am - 9:15am on school days.
- Access to the Morris Road carpark is closed to all vehicles between 2:45pm - 4:00pm on school days.
- Vehicles may continue to access the Morris Road carpark outside of the above listed hours.
- Riley Road Staff Carpark
The Riley Road carpark is restricted to staff access only. With an increased number of staff to service our student community, some staff are forced to park in surrounding streets.
- Access to the Riley Road carpark is closed to all vehicles between 8:15am - 9:15am on school days.
- Access to the Riley Road carpark is closed to all vehicles between 2:45pm - 4:00pm on school days.
Improved signage is an important mitigation action which promotes student safety, hence School Council has recently installed reflective signage, and pedestrian lighting to assist with movement in and out of the school grounds.
Other mitigation actions currently being undertaken are:
- School Council is actively communicating with Yarra Ranges Council, advocating for improved traffic management in surrounding streets
- School Council is actively communicating with the VSBA, advocating for improved all-abilities and staff parking.
On behalf of School Council, we extend our appreciation to all parents/carers who are actively working to further promote student safety.
