Moving into the Upwey area, and enrolling in Year One - Year Six
Moving to a new area and school can be a stressful time for families and children. We support students and families during this transition process and ensure that they are given the space and confidence to make new friends. Our support is not just for your child; we will also support your family as you become familiar with the amazing area in which we reside.
Families are welcome (and encouraged) to visit and consider multiple schools so that they may make an informed decision about their child’s enrolment.
Families within our area are spoiled for choice, as in addition to Upwey South Primary School there are 12 other primary schools within a five kilometre radius of our school (nine government, two Catholic, one independent P-12).
You can find your local government school zone by visiting: https://www.findmyschool.vic.gov.au/
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Will my child be paired with a buddy (learning mentor) when they begin schooling?
In short, the answer is Yes.
Upwey South Primary School is an inclusive and supportive community. Each student who joins our school (Year One- Year Six) is set up with a series of buddies from across their year level. These buddies help them out with the day-to-day happenings of the school, such as recess breaks, locating learning tools, and a physical orientation of the school.
Each Foundation student is paired with a Year Five student who they meet with once a week during dedicated ‘Learning Mentor’ sessions, which are supervised by classroom teachers. When Foundation students enter Year One, they continue their formal buddy relationships with their mentors, who will now be in Year Six.
How many students are at your school?
As a school of choice for the area, we carefully manage our enrolment base so that we remain within +/-10% of 350 students. This allows for multiple extra-curricular programs to be offered, whilst still maintaining a personal and community-orientated learning environment.
How many classes are there at Upwey South Primary School?
In 2025, our school is structured with a 14-class model:
-
2 x Foundation (Prep) classes
-
3 x Year One classes
-
2 x Year Two classes
-
4 x Year Three/Four classes
-
3 x Year Five/Six classes
