Upwey South Primary School's School Council comprises a group of dedicated staff and parent volunteers who are working together for the ‘big picture’ future of our school, and ultimately our students.
Councillors collaborate to ensure high quality governance of our school and monitor finance, facilities and school policies as well as seeking opportunities to engage with and represent the wider school community. School Council ensures that these integral areas of the school operations are compliant with regulations and reflect the overall strategic direction and values of our school. We are working together for the best possible learning environments and resources for the students of Upwey South.
The School Council welcomes feedback and opportunities to engage with the school community on any of these areas.
If at any time you would like to offer suggestions or have any questions, please feel free to contact our School Council President, Robert Shepherd: robert.shepherd@education.vic.gov.au

Become involved in our School Council subcommittees
Any parent or interested community member can become involved in the actions of a subcommittee. The time commitment can vary, dependent upon the time of year, or focus, of a subcommittee. In general terms, you may be asked to attend up to two meetings per term (either in person or via teleconference).
The formation of sub committees, membership, purpose and terms of reference are determined and ratified by School Council at the beginning of each year. The structure of a school’s subcommittees can vary from year to year, dependent upon the strategic goals of the school.
It is a Standing Order of the USPS School Council that subcommittees:
- have a minimum of three members
- contain at least one School Council member
- contain at least one existing USPS staff member
- are open to members of the school community who do not hold a School Council position.

School Council Endorsed Reports
Each year, School Council ratifies two documents:
- Annual Report; provides information to the public on the school's position for the preceding academic year.
- Annual Implementation Plan; provides a summary of key improvement strategies which the school is undertaking to imporve curriculum and wellbeing.

The above annual reports are shaped by the School Strategic Plan.
Every four years, Victorian government schools take part in a strategic review. The review process is extremely rigourous, involving (but not limited to) input from the following:
- Victorian Registrations and Qualifications Authority (VRQA)
- An accredited and independent school reviewer
- School Council President and other nominated members
- A minimum of two challenge partners; these can be other principal-class members, or educational professionals
- Staff and students
- Families and community partners
Following the strategic review, a School Strategic Plan is published which details the strategic goals and direction of the school. These goals are then broken into annual key improvement strategies, which form part of a school's Annual Implementation Plan.
